The first time I came across Tyler was when he posted in the sitepoint forums that he was moving out on his own because he was making enough money on the internet to support himself.
The thread “I’m doing it guys” ended up with an epic 192 posts, mostly of people wishing him well and looking forward to the day they too would be able to earn a living on the internet fulltime.
I’ve been dreaming of doing the same, so I’ve been following Tyler’s progress from his pink(!?) blog to the custom designed money making site he runs today.
Since moving out he’s bought his own house, lost a fortune on ppc, and brought his blog earnings from $0 to $1000 per month.
He’s attracted some fans and some “Tyler haters” over the last few years because he’s not afraid of giving his opinion. He seems like a regular guy that is lucky enough to have a job that he really likes.
I like the fact that he tends to report as much detail as he can in his posts, even when the news isn’t good. He made an effort at sending ppc traffic to landing pages that didn’t work out, but he never stopped posting his stats and letting people know how it was going.
There’s something to be learned from everything, he’s been more successful in selling private advertising and taking advantage of the “paid to blog” services like PayPerPost. I’m sure there’s still a healthy income coming in from movie-vault.com and pokerforums.org as well.
In the future I’d love to see Tyler take on different ways of making money on the internet and elsewhere and report about it. From his about page:
Financially-wise, I’d like to own a number of assets outside of the web, and earn money from both websites and other assets such as stocks, bonds, etc. I may also be interested in purchasing more real estate.
Tyler’s been building his RSS numbers in earnest for the last few months and recently ran a competition between himself and another blogger.
This is my vote for Tyler, he’s been blogrolled for over a year so here’s hoping he wins ( and that I can end up with the $100 that the loser has to pay
)
