Progress Report Jan 2009

by Declan on February 9, 2009

I’ve read a few posts from Tyler and Smemon reporting on their progress with their blogs and earnings in general and thought it might be worthwhile doing the same myself.

Except for the fact that I’m not earning much money or increasing my subscribers. Things are a bit grim chez scoby.

Record What I’m Doing now

Here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to tell you how I’m doing.

Later on I’ll tell you whether it’s improved or not.

If I haven’t improved / earned more money, I want you to beat the virtual crap out of me.

Statistics

Probably nothing as scientific as statistics but numbers at least.

Earnings for January 2009 : $132

And that’s it. I try to earn money on the internet and I can’t even afford a ferrari yet. What a Loser.

I’m certainly disappointed with this figure, I don’t know what you were expecting.

But enough doom and gloom, lets try and focus on the positive.

  • That $132 was generated by a single web page.
  • It took me ~30mins to write the content for the page
  • That page has earned over $1400 since it was written.

Plans for next month

By this time next month I’m planning to write some articles and squidoo lenses and point them to some of my existing articles. I have google analytics installed on my sites so I’ll be able to see if this works as a source of traffic.

I am also starting a new site and I am going to have to add content for the site itself and the aweber email course that will accompany it. A fellow internet marketer and friend is going to help me with an adwords campaign for the new site so we get to attack it on 2 fronts and see which is most profitable.

There’s lots more that I want to do but those 2 items are probably realistic so I’ll leave it there for the moment.

I’ll also get some other nice people to do some work for me.

Outsourcing

I’ve been sitting on a great idea for months now and I’ve finally accepted that I have neither the time nor the skill to realise it. So someone else is going to do it for me.

I’m writing a detailed description of a site and sending that to a group of programmers that I’ve worked with before.

Within a few weeks I hope to have completed code and design. I’m going to use the code for lots of different sites, I think the features will be useful to people in a wide range of niches.

It may even be possbile to sell the code as a product in itself, along with some training videos ( I can record with camtasia or jing )

Looking forward to measuring my progress, I’ll make these updates a monthly regular post.

Hey, you might think it looks grim, but you are working to get it turned around… That’s a good sign, right?

I think you’re spot-on re: outsourcing. If you have a great idea, it deserves to see the light of day even if you don’t have the time to do everything yourself.

Hey Scoby – head up. Sometimes it is hard to see the wood for the trees. Day by day it might not seem like a lot but built up over time – it’ll start to mount. In fact – I’m pretty impressed that one page generated €1,400 dollars.

Let me know when your ready to come present for us some time ;)

@Jake and @Maayan Thanks for the comments, it’s great to get some support from others :)

@James I think you’re right. I was actually a bit frustrated at my lack of progress but when I typed out the amount that page had earned over its lifetime I felt much better :)

Thanks TJ, I’m hoping to add more info to site to help others. If you have something in particular that you’d like to know about let me know.

If I don’t know anything about it I’ll try and find someone who does :)

Thanks for the comment.
